"The Canada goose is a large goose species and is one of the most popular geese to hunt in Europe. Their distinct white "chinstrap" helps distinguish the Canada goose from other geese. Adaptable and widespread, they occupy an extensive range of habitats including tundra, prairie lands, and mountainous fields. Canada geese are monogamous with lifelong pairs formed early in their lives. For many regions, loud calls from migrating Canada geese flying in V-shaped formation signal the change into spring and autumn."
― In-Game Description

The Canada Goose (or Canadian Goose) is a class 1 animal that can be found in Hirschfelden Hunting Reserve and Revontuli Coast. It was also retroactively added to Yukon Valley after the release of New England Mountains. The Canada Goose was released as a free DLC, and was the first bird species to be huntable in game. Likewise, it is the first goose species in game, preceding both the Greylag Goose, and the Tundra Bean Goose.

Tips[]

In TheHunter: Call of The Wild, hunting Canada Goose is similar to hunting other waterfowl; the added benefit being that one can hunt them in open fields. Both Hirschfelden and Revontuli Coast are ideal maps for hunting these birds. The Hirschfelden reserve is by far the best map to hunt them on because of its large open fields in which most of their need zones appear.

How to Hunt[]

Find an open area in which you place Canada Goose decoys. Each decoy type (sentry, feeding, searching) has the same luring effect, so you can pick whichever ones you want. When you have placed them down, you can either lay down on the ground and wait for them to land, or you can place a portable blind/tripod stand. The latter is definitely the easiest option as the geese will take longer to spot you. Ideally, the blind or tripod should be placed approximately 50 meters (55 yards) away from the decoys. Note that geese will fly upwind (towards the wind) when landing, so be mindful of where you lay down or place your blind.

When you have placed your decoys and got into position, whether it is on the ground or in a blind/tripod, all you have to do is use your callers and wait. The optimal time for shooting is when the geese are doing their landing animations, as this gives you increased time to shoot more of them.

Recommended weapons are any shotgun or the Zarza-15 22LR. Note that shotguns are easier to use and to get full integrity with.

Trivia[]

  • The Canada Goose is known as "Outarde du Canada" or as "Bernache du Canada" in French.
  • Despite its name, it is in fact NOT Canada's national bird. That unofficial title goes to the Canadian Gray Jay.[2]
  • It is the only member of the 'Branta' genus in-game, which contains species with primarily black plumage. This distinguishes them from the gray species of the genus 'Anser'.
  • One of the many species described by Carl Linnaeus in his 18th-century work "Systema Naturae" - was the Canada Goose.
