Description[edit | edit source]
Iberian ibex, also known as the Spanish wild goat or Iberian wild goat, is a specific type of wild goat (Capra pyrenaica) native to the mountain ranges of iberia. Out of its many subspecies, the most commonly hunted are the Beceite, Southeastern Spanish, and Ronda Ibex (all three derived from Capra pyrenaica hispanica) as well as the Gredos Ibex (Capra pyrenaica victoriae). The Iberian ibex is a stocky, mountainous animal, known for its agility and glimbing prowess. Their flexible hooves and short legs allow them to navigate the mountainside with ease. They use this ability to escape predators, making them an especially challenging quarry. The smartes of the Iberian ibex, the Ronda has horns that grow to about 58.4 cm (23 inches) and a maximum weight of the just 70 kg (154.3 lbs). They have the brightest fur among the Iberian Ibex and are often the trickiest species to hunt, given their small size and ability to flee rapidly uphill, hidden by rocky outcrops.
